ROOM 13 WEST RISE

Below are a selection of films, all of which were created by the young people of Room 13 West Rise, Eastbourne. Room 13 West Rise is a pupil lead art studio within the grounds of a primary school. I helped to set up the studio back in 2007 and I remained there as the Artist in Residence for 5 years.

Room 13 West Rise got involved in the Park(ing) Day project 2009. See www.parkingday.org.On 18th September every year, people from all over the world takeover parking spaces and bring them to life. Organised by artist CiCi Blumstein, in partnership with BLANK Studios & Gallery, Portslade.
At West Rise we created a tree for our park(ing) space out of cardboard, wooden posts, sticks, leaves and a lot of parcel tape! We played catch, told stories, drank tea and ate buns. We all fell in love with our tree and wished it could have stayed forever.

The Headmaster of West rise Junior School, Mike Fairclough, commissioned Room 13 to document various developments around the school to do with the Bronze Age. Simon D'Souza worked with Year 5 to create a soundscape which has been remixed for the film by a passing Room 13er. A small team of animators and filmmakers put themselves forward to create and gather footage for the film.
